A-Frame
Information Page...
Here you will find commonly asked questions and shipping
information for our Aluminum Competition A-frame. Drop us a line if you have any
ideas, we'd love to hear from you!
"What
can I expect in shipping?"
The A-frame must be shipped by freight, and will range
from $130 to $400, depending on how far you are from N.Y., to a residential
location. You do get a cheaper price if you have a commercial address to
ship to (a location with a sign/posted hours/etc. that is an obvious place of
business). However, we can ship to your home as well. Please
email or call for a quote.
"Can I add
more obstacles to the freight shipment?"
Absolutely! You will save more in shipping if you
order other obstacles with the A-frame. In many cases, the other obstacles
go for a "free ride" with the A-frame.
"How fast can
I receive an A-frame?"
Approximately 2 weeks (possibly quicker if
needed). After you place the order, we will call you to let you know what
the exact freight cost will be, and to verify a few other things before sending
it..
"How heavy is
it?"
Each side is approximately 65 lbs, for a total of about 140 lbs
with the chain.
"How many
people does it take to move?"
If you simply want
to move the A-frame a short distance (like when you move your course around),
you can drag it from the bottom. But it's far better on the frame construction if
you tip it, fold it, and drag it that way. Some people can manage to
do this on their own, but it much easier if you have someone who can lift the other
side.
When the two sides
are disassembled (which you do by simply tipping the frame, then removing the
hinge pin) one person can more easily handle each side (65 lbs).
"How high do
I put the A-frame, and how low can it go?"
Last time we checked the rules (AKC for example), 5', 7" high was the maximum
height to put the peak at. This is the height for competition, no
matter what size dog. For training
purposes, however, you can lower the frame as low as 12" off the
ground (or entirely flat if you don't use the chain). The chain is very
strong, but it is NOT recommended that it be used by children or adults to walk
over!
"How will it
come?"
The frame will come all wrapped up in foam/cardboard/and shrink wrap. It
will have the chain and hinge pin, all ready to set up. You don't need any tools
or anything.
"What else
should I know?"
The uniqueness of your A-frame:
You can expect slight
imperfections and defects to your A-frame. Each one is handcrafted and each
will have individual characteristics. As plywood is made up of multiple layers,
you can expect that there may be voids and small splits that either will already
be in the grain, or will develop over time. These are to be expected and they
will not deter from the functionality of the obstacle. They will not go all the
way through the wood.
Maintenance:
Wood naturally shrinks and expands with the weather, so it is best if you
periodically paint the top (and bottom) to prolong its life. Use an exterior
paint, preferably oil-based. Use a flat or a semi-gloss. Voids (on the edges)
and cracks in the wood are also a natural occurrence and cannot be avoided. But
if you will be keeping your A-frame outside, you can fill these voids in the
wood with wood putty and then paint over them. This will prolong its life.
