Weave Poles Information Page...
Here you will find commonly asked questions and
shipping information for the competition weave poles we sell. Drop us a line
if you have any ideas, we'd love to hear from you!
Q. "I am new
to agility...is the distance between poles always the same, regardless of dog
size?"
A. Yes, the pole distance is always the same, regardless of what size dog uses
them. The distance between poles can range from 20"-22".
Ours is 20" apart (center to center), which is approved for sanctioned
AKC and USDAA trials.
Q. "What are the
specs for the Competition Poles you sell?"
A. The poles are 1" outer
diameter (3/4" inner) furniture-grade pipe. They are 40" tall
and capped with black inner plugs. The "sleeves" that the poles
insert into are 3 1/2" tall. The base is powder-coated steel, flat,
and 1 1/2" wide. The
poles are spaced 20" apart, center to center. All of these
specifications are approved for sanctioned
AKC and USDAA trials.
Q. "How do they
ship/come? "
A. When
the 6-pole set is put together, it is approximately 10' in
length. But it cannot ship as one long piece, so you will get two 3-pole
sections (approximately 5' each) that you attach together on the ground.
The legs also swing in and out for compact storage.
Q. "How do the two 3-pole
sections connect together?"
A. In the picture to the right you will notice a 2-pin anchor. This is included for free.
With your foot you simply push it down into the ground inside the holes, which
connects the sets together and anchors the base securely to the
ground.
Q. "How can I use the weaves on hard ground?"
A.
You will need to purchase the optional "Weave Pavement Connector(s)"
(see second picture to the right).
You will need one connector for a 6-pole set. But if you are ordering a
12-pole weave set, you will need a set of 3 sleeves.
Q. "How can I
use this set for training beginner dogs?"
The
Guide Wire method. We offer great-quality clip-on wires
that are attached to the poles. These create a visual pathway for the dog
to run through. Slowly you lower or raise the wires out of the dog's line of
sight, until eventually he doesn't know they are gone, and your dog is weaving.
The Straight
Pole method. Another
method is to just guide the dog through rigid straight poles using your
leash, and/or gently nudging him in and out of the poles with your knee and
basic body language.
Q. "What
do you think of " spring-bottom" competition weave sets?"
A. The most recent AKC
rules book state that the spring poles are not recommended by AKC, so we no
longer carry them. Our Competition Set's poles do flex a
little, however, allowing the proper amount of 'give' to the dogs running through.
This is desirable in a good competition set.
Q. "What can I expect in shipping?"
A. What you can approximately expect to pay in
domestic U.S. shipping for one 6-pole set is between $15 and $26, depending on how
far you are from New York. It is approximately only a few dollars
more for two sets. (There is no sales tax unless you are in N.Y.) If you
require a special quote for international or non-domestic shipping, email
us with your city, state, and zip/postal code, or call us.
