Closed
Tunnels
(i.e. Chutes)...
General
Description: AKC suspended the use of the “Closed Tunnel” in competitions. Though many people are still particularly fond of their function for use in confidence training, as well as their fun factor when used at home, kennels, and doggy daycares. The "Closed Tunnel"
is different than the "Open
Tunnel". It is comprised of a barrel and an attached material chute. It is called "Closed", because as soon as the dog
runs into the barrel they
encounter a long tube of material that they have to run through. They are
running "in the dark" so-to-speak...temporarily losing sight of you!
The chutes vary from 6'-12' long. There are no adjustments to this obstacle for different dog sizes. Another name for the "closed tunnel" is "collapsible tunnel".
When
training the Closed Tunnel, some common
call words to use are: Chute,
Zoom, Push. Or, some people use the same word that they choose for the
tunnel, since they look similar to the dog, but many professionals prefer to differentiate
between them. (more
