Start in 'Rocker Mode' to make it wobble and get your dog accustomed to a moving surface. Then, using the pivot-adaptor piece, convert to 'Teeter Mode' to replicate the flip-flop movement of a teeter. This Rocker Board is less intimidating than other boards that rotate on all 4 sides. These are handmade and have individual characteristics in the wood that are normal and will not deter from functionality. As with anything made from wood that will be exposed to weather, it is necessary to periodically maintain it.
