Closed
Tunnels
(i.e. Chutes)...
General
Description: The "Closed Tunnel"
is different than the "Open
Tunnel". It is comprised of a barrel and an attached material chute. It is called "Closed", because as soon as the dog
runs into the barrel they
encounter a long tube of material that they have to run through. They are
running "in the dark" so-to-speak...temporarily losing sight of you!
The chutes
are approximately 10'-12' long. Almost always there is a closed tunnel in a trial.
There are no adjustments to this obstacle for different dog sizes.
When
training the Closed Tunnel, some common
call words to use are: Chute,
Zoom, Push. Or, some people use the same word that they choose for the
tunnel, since they look similar to the dog, but many professionals prefer to differentiate
between them. (more
