Contact Zoners
Contacts are tricky.
Not only does your dog have to go up and down a see-saw or a-frame to begin with, he also has to touch those dang yellow zones! Some dogs have a tendency to run off the planks sideways. Others, especially bigger dogs, leap off the exit zone without touching the contacts. As you know, this means (horror) "disqualification"!
A popular method of training contacts is to use a reinforcing "Contact Zoner". Simply place the zoner at the bottom of the obstacle. When your dog goes through and under it, treat him. As your dog begins to consistently exit properly you can remove the zoner. If he ever misses a contact again, simply bring it back as a gentle reminder.
Our Contact Zoners have some great features! They use a durable flexible white wire that is thick enough to be seen by your dog, but thin enough to ‘phase out’ when the dog is reliable on the contacts. To phase them out you simply pop out the wire (but keep the uprights showing for awhile). You can also lengthen or shorten the wire! This gives enough height so that any size dog can run under it without hitting their head, yet can adjust very low for smaller dogs.
Specificiations:
-
Contact Zoner for Dog-Walks or Teeters: 20” wide and adjusts from 32” to 45” tall (wire can be cut to make it shorter)
- Contact Zoner for A-frame: 39” wide and adjusts from 32” to 42” tall (wire can be cut to make it shorter)
